The marble palaces, beautifully laid out gardens and the lakes make Udaipur seem almost like a mirage.
Udaipur is the capital of the erstwhile kingdom of Mewar. The kingdom of Mewar, with which many legends of bravery are associated, was considered the most respectable of all Rajput princely states in Rajasthan.

1. City Palace
City Palace was constructed in the year 1559 by Maharana Udai Mirza Singh. The palace is situated on the banks of Pichola Lake. The palace is a blend of European, Medieval and Chinese styles of architecture. The City Palace in Udaipur was built in a flamboyant style and is considered the largest of its type in the state of Rajasthan. It was built atop a hill, in a fusion of the Rajasthani and Mughal architectural styles, providing a panoramic view of the city and its surroundings. It takes a full day to explore the City Palace, and even after that, you’ll be left wanting more. It’s one of the grandest places to visit in Udaipur.

2. JAGMANDIR
Jagmandir is also Knows as Lake Garden Palace. Its construction is credited to three Maharanas of the Sisodia Rajputs of Mewar kingdom. The construction of the palace was started in 1551 by Maharana Amar Singh, continued by Maharana Karan Singh and finally completed by Maharana Jagat Singh I. It is named as "Jagat Mandir" in honour of the last named Maharana Jagat Singh. The royal family used the palace as its summer resort and for hosting parties. Interestingly, Prince Khurram - later Emperor Shah Jahan - was given shelter here when he rebelled against his father Emperor Jahangir. This palace has a long history and is considered one of the symbols of friendship between the Mughals and Rajputs. The Palace had such an impact on Emperor Shah Jahan that it went on to become the inspiration for one of the most magnificent Wonders of the World, The Taj Mahal.

3. Lake Pichola
Lake Pichola, Is an artificial fresh water lake, created in the year 1362 AD, named after the nearby Picholi village.It is one of the several contiguous lakes, and developed over the last few centuries in and around the famous Udaipur city. Rana Udai Singh II extended the lake in 16th century. The picturesque lake is surrounded by huge hills, magnificent palaces, temples and bathing ghats. A lake which contains four islands, namely – Jag Mandir, Jag Niwas, Mohan Mandir and Arsi Vilas. Taking a boat cruise around the freshwater lake during sunset is one of the most blissful and relaxing things to do in Udaipur.

4. Jagdish Temple
Jagdish Temple is a large Hindu temple in the middle of Udaipur in Rajasthan, just outside the royal palace.
Jagdish Temple is Built in the year 1651. An estimated 1.5 million INR were spent on this stunning Indo-Aryan architectural marvel. It is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and also houses other shrines dedicated to Lord Shiva, Ganesh, the Sun God, and Goddess Shakti. the structure is an architectural marvel with carved pillars, graceful ceilings and painted walls. This three-storied temple was built by Maharana Jagat Singh I.

5. The Monsoon Palace
The Monsoon Palace, also known as the Sajjan Garh Palace, is a hilltop palatial residence in the city of Udaipur. It was built by Maharana Sajjan Singh of Mewar Dynasty. it was built for in 1884. The fort was built, basically, to watch the monsoon clouds floating by. It guarantees panoramic views of the surrounding country side and sunsets at distance. Used as a monsoon palace and hunting lodge, its builder, Maharana Sajjan Singh, originally planned to make it an astronomical center. The palace is in close proximity of the Sajjangarh Wildlife sanctuary and is usually a one day trek from the palace.
