1. Dudhsagar Waterfalls: Enticing Sights


This waterfall is quite famous all over India, owing to the four-leveled falls. Moreover, this is one of the tallest waterfalls in the country. dudhsagar  waterfall located on the Mandovi River. The height of waterfall is 310 m and an average width of waterfall is 30 metres. Because of its dazzling natural beauty, Dudhsagar is one of  Goa's most visited location. The sheer variety in the flora and fauna is further complemented by this majestic waterfall. 

The sound of the water splashing on the rocks is audible from a long distance.The literal translation of Dudhsagar is “Sea of Milk”. The milky white waters of the fall truly justify the name.

HISTORY

The popular belief around the waterfall is really interesting. A Princess who was bathing in the lake nearby Mandovi river, poured a mug full of milk to protect herself from a Prince who was gazing her. This started the unending flow of milky waters.

The falls is located in the Bhagwan Mahaveer Sanctuary and Mollem National Park among the Western Ghats. The waterfall is located in the state of Goa. It is 60 km from Panaji by road and is located on the Belgaum–Vasco da Gama rail route about 46 km east of Madgaon and 80 km south of Belagavi.The falls is a punctuation mark in the journey of the Mandovi River from the Western Ghats to Panjim where it meets the Arabian sea.

HISTORY

Basilica of Bom Jesus is a big and one of the oldest church in India which was constructed during the Portuguese rule in Goa. Bom Jesus means good Jesus or infant Jesus and the church is dedicated to him. The construction of the church was started in 1594 and ended in 1605. The church was declared as sacred in1605 by Alexio de Menezes

3. Aguada Fort: Beautiful Ambiance





This majestic fort perched over the Sinquerim beach is an architectural marvel of the 17th century, which was constructed by the Portuguese in order to defend their land from the Marathas and the British. Sightseeing in Goa is incomplete without a visit to Fort Aguada. Fort Aguada is a well-preserved seventeenth-century Portuguese fort, along with a lighthouse, standing in Goa, India, on Sinquerim Beach, overlooking the Arabian Sea. It is an ASI protected Monument of National Importance in Goa


HISTORY

The fort was originally constructed in 1612 to guard against the Dutch. This old Portuguese fort stands on the beach south of Candolim, at the shore of the Mandovi River. The Aguada Fort Lighthouse erected in 1864 is the oldest of its kind in Asia. Built in 1612, it was once the grandstand of 79 cannons. It has the capacity of storing 2,376,000 gallons of water, one of the biggest freshwater storage of the time in whole of Asia. This fort is divided in two segments: the upper part acted as fort and watering station, while the lower part served as a safe berth for Portuguese ships.

4. Chapora Fort: For Selfie Lovers



Chapora Fort is one of the prime tourist attractions of Goa. This fort overlooks the Chapora river and and is only 700 meters away from Vagator Beach. In the recent years, it shot to prominence after the Bollywood movie Dil Chahta Hai was shot here. Perched on a prominent position, one can get sweeping views of all directions from here. 

HISTORY

In 1617, King Adil Shah of Bijapur built this fort, but later it became a stronghold for the Sultanate of Bijapur.  By 1737, Hindu king of Pernem, a Maharaja of Sawantwadi and an enemy to Portuguese took control of this fort for two years. By 1939, this fort came back into the hands of Marathas. However, the Portuguese’s main motive to use this fort was to seize the opportunity of the Indian rulers who were trying to get their control over Goa. The battle for control over the Chapora Fort and Goa surged to new heights during the Maratha-Portuguese war. 
After the war, the Portuguese simply acquired the whole province of Pernem with a counter-attack. They didn’t take the control over the fort again, but they did everything that they could do, to reduce their dependence on military force. By 1892, Chapora Fort lost its significance when Portuguese men were successful in changing their strategy. However, that couldn’t last long when in 1961 they were forced to leave Goa.

The best moment to explore Chapora Fort is during the late afternoon when the sun is not directly over your head. In Goa, during December and January, the weather still gets too hot to bear in the afternoon, especially at the hilltops.

Corjuem Fort is built in 1705 and built by Portuguese as a defense against Maratha aggression, and was subsequently rebuilt and reinforced by them to boost up defenses along Panjim.

The Fort of Corjuem is situated on an island with the same name in Bardez, to the east of the village of Aldona, from which it is separated by the Mapuçá River.
